HYDRATION?!
How much is enough?
There are several methods to calculate the daily hydration needed depending on body weight, body surface, climate, activity etc.
Body surface method: |
it’s complicated. |
Body weight method: |
adults: |
30ml/kg ( 1fl oz/ 1,1lb) |
children: |
60ml/kg ( 1fl oz/ 1lb) – changes with age |
children with CF: |
60ml/kg ( 2fl oz/ 2,2lb) + 50 % |
Example:
8 years old child, with CF, 30kg: 60ml x 30kg = 1800ml + 900ml ( CF-bonus) = 2,7 l /day (91 fl oz/day)
Hydration Marker: without calculating you can tell by checking the TONGUE, if the person drinks enough and is well hydrated.
Well hydrated tongue: the tongue is all over GLOSSY, shiny and well hydrated. The tongue is nice pink and uniform everywhere.
